What We Believe

Articles of Faith

This highlights some important doctrines.

1. THE BIBLE - We believe that the Holy Bible, both old and new testaments, was written by men who were inspired of God. With God as the actual author of the Bible, we believe that it is entirely true and that its ultimate message is salvation. We believe that the Bible is the center of our Christian walk with God because it contains the instructions by which we are to live our lives and it contains the standards by which all will be judged by God.

II Peter 1:21
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

II Timothy 3:15-17
15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2. THE TRUE GOD - We believe that there is only one living and true God. He is a trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the creator and supreme ruler of heaven and earth. He is the all-knowing, and ever-present Spirit whose name is JEHOVAH. We believe that He alone is perfect and worthy of all honor, devotion, and praise.

Genesis 1:1
1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Matthew 3:16-17
16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 28:19
19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

John 5:18
18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

Matthew 22:37
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

3. THE FALL OF HUMANITY - We believe that man and woman were created as sinless beings with direct access to God; and that they chose to sin by disobeying God. As a result, they lost their direct access to God (spiritual death), and that their bodies began the process of death. We believe all have sinned and therefore are deserving of death because of their own sin.

Genesis 1:27
27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Romans 5:12
12Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 3:23
23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23
23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

4. THE GOSPEL - We believe that according to God's plan, Jesus Christ, the Son of God freely choose to become a human being; that His father was God (the Holy Spirit), not a man and His mother was a virgin at the time of His birth. We believe that Jesus did not sin during His life and therefore did not deserve to die, but allowed Himself to be crucified and to pay the penalty for sin. We believe that God the Father raised Him from the dead, being satisfied with Jesus' death for all sin.

Isiah 53:5, 11
5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

I Corinthians 15:3-4
3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

II Corinthians 5:21
21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

5. THE WAY OF SALVATION - We believe that to be saved a person must recognize that he or she is a sinner, and that because of his or her sin deserves to die and be eternally separated from God. If that person comes to God in faith bv prayer confessing his or her sin and seeking forgiveness through Christ, God forgives that person and grants him or her eternal life. We believe that no one can earn salvation by any form of good living or personal works. Salvation is a free gift of God and God's desire for all.

Romans 3:23
23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23
23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 10:9-10
9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

I Peter 3:9
9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

6. THE SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER - We believe that when a person trusts Jesus Christ as his or her personal savior, God grants that person eternal life: he or she shall not come into condemnation but is passed from death unto life.

John 5:24
24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 10:27-28
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

I John 5:11-12
11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

7. THE CHURCH - We believe that Jesus Christ established His Church during his 3 year ministry on earth. We believe that it is a physical group of scripturally baptized believers. We believe that each church must be established by an existing scriptural church, and therefore has a continual lineage back to the original church established by Christ. We believe that He purposes for everyone who believes in Him to become a member of a scriptural church and to remain active through their lifetime.

Matthew 16:18
18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Ephesians 2:20
20And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Matthew 18:17
17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Acts 2:38, 41, 47
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Hebrews 10:24-25
24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

8. BAPTISM - We believe that baptism is done by the authority of a scriptural church ( see #7) and that it is required for membership in the church. We believe that baptism must consist of immersion of the believer (a saved person) in water. It is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as well as a testimony that the believer has died to sin, buried the old man, and is living a new life in Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20
19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Romans 6:3-9
3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

Acts 2:41-42, 47
41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

9. THE LORD'S SUPPER - We believe Communion (the Lord's supper) is a local church ordinance and therefore to be partaken of only by the members of that church. In doing so they commemorate the death of Jesus. This consists of partaking of unleavened bread, symbolic of Christ's body and the fruit of the vine, symbolic of His blood. Each member should always sincerely examine their walk with Christ prior to taking communion.

I Corinthians 11:23-29
23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

Matthew 26:26-28
26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

10. ASSEMBLING TOGETHER - We believe that the early church (as recorded in the New Testament) set an example by meeting on Sunday, the first day of the week; they also met on other days of the week. We believe that in order to grow and to encourage one another, every member of the church should be present each time the church meets.

Acts 20:7
7And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Hebrews 10:24-25
24And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

11. THE KINGDOM TO COME - We believe that the end of the world as we know it is coming soon. We believe that Jesus Christ will return to establish His Kingdom and that every person who has lived will be resurrected, believers living at the time of His return will be changed. All will be judged. Those who have trusted Christ will live eternally and, based on their life, receive reward. Those who have rejected Christ will spend eternity in a place called the lake of fire, sometimes called hell.

Revelation 11:17-18
17Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. 18And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Revelation 20:11-15
11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

John 5:24
24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Acts 24:15
15And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Hebrews 9:27
27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

I Corinthians 15:51-52
51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
